Globally, a quarter of children suffer stunted growth from malnutrition, creating one of the world's greatest poverty traps. Semilla Nueva helps farmers grow their way out of poverty and malnutrition by working with international scientists to find maize seeds with high nutrients and high yields, then selling them to farmers at low prices. The project reached nearly 2,000 families in Guatemala in 2018, and aims to reach nearly 5,000 in 2019. Their vision is new agricultural technology building a ladder out of poverty for the 900 million people who eat maize daily, and the farmers who grow their food.
